Our Story
As many people know, Amy and I have been trying to start a
family for many years. This summer our wish was granted when we adopted a
lovely baby girl. We named her Jane (the feminine of "John" and
one of Amy's grandmothers' name) Marjorie (another grandmother name) Ireland and
took her home on her third day of life. Amy and I had been working with
our adoption agency for two years and were surprised when we went from just
waiting to having a baby at home in 24 hours. Jane spent a week at home
with us having continual problems with her formula. After losing 14% of
her birth weight, she was readmitted to the hospital and transferred the next
day to Mott Children's Hospital. Testing showed that she had a Complete
Duodenal Atresia (a 1:10,000 defect where the stomach and intestines are not
connected). After emergency surgery and two-weeks in the hospital, Janie
is doing fine and back home with mom and dad.
